What drives us to quit a relationship is the exact same thing that drives us to get into one. We make our choices based on pain or pleasure. In the case of a ‘painful” relationship, when the pain outweighs the pleasure… its bye bye time! If there is more pleasure, than pain, we stick around and try to fix the loose ends.
